He weaves his comments and reflections neatly into a string of digital stories, in which his role seems to be a person who adds aside to an organic story.
The theme of this story is “Citizen Media”, a new media form stands out in a digital age. New technology has provided ordinary people with powerful tools to create their own contents and meanings. Meanwhile, big media begin to experiment on new media forms by introducing production workshops in community. All these factors contribute citizen media’s birth.
One of the most noticeable experiments is a documentary titled “The Bus”. Meadow did it himself by travelling around England on a bus with his studio in it. He collected many pictures of ordinary people, and each picture told a story. Such practice was also seen in “Capture Wales”, a documentary made by various Wales people.
Even an 83-year-old woman, Doris was trying to use new technology to tell her own story.
A seemingly amazing media form that integrates so many colours and individualities!
But hang on, what follows these digital stories? There would be huge amount of information and images being created at an increasing rate, which perhaps make audience more and more indifferent to news and documents with real value. That might be one reason why nowadays people are more fascinated by entertainment than news. Will it be the end of traditional journalism?

Project Confirmation

Paddle

Pete Clifford commentary: News Interactive-- a Game between Media and Audience

A lecture titled "BBC: News Interactive" was given by Pete Clifford, the head of BBC Interactive, at Bute Building on this Thursday 24 November.

He gave us a portrait of the current situation and the creative future of BBC Intreactive. As the top news website in the UK, BBC has an ambition to be the leader in on-demand and 24/7 journalism. To reach this goal, it has set a comprehensive plan to maximize its fluence: 24 hours, seven days news bulletin to provide audience with quicker, fuller coverage of current issues; more relevent, personalized information to attract hard-to-reach audience; stronger impact by well-designed video and story pages.....

Meanwhile, BBC try to make full use of new technology to bring audience into media world, by making news more personalized, entertaining and interactive. "Mobile is a device of the future."He raised the example of July 7 Bombing in London, to highlight the power of new technology including mobilephone and email in making audience engaging in producing news, providing contents and views. He also declared the plan of launching an editors' blog on BBC website, as well as improving the digital platform.

In a word, BBC Interactive has provided a good example in playing a game between media and audience better.

Project idea

1. It provided me with a different perspective on a journalist's role in an ever-changing media world.

Nowadays people are no longer relying on media for information. Instead, they can easily get or produce infomation themselves on the Internet. Therefore, a modern journalist should be a good interpreter between the huge amount of information and its buyers. To do this, he must gather and select most needed and relevant information for them, and present information in most attractive and suitable way, no matter online or in print media. Thus, to bring audience back.
<img width='1' height='1'
